Martin Becka ” Dubai Transmutations” is a first of its kind. Becka spent two years photographing the city of Dubai through the bellows of his large format view camera. He printed his images using the 19th century process of ” Photogravure” and his custom-refurbished 19th Century Camera for which he is a recognised specialist.
Becka presents a series of landscapes of the monumental architecture of Dubai – and is framed with his unerring eye which radiates with the rich contrasting beauty of Dubai. The images range from the unusually empty Sheikh Zayed Road to the iconic towers of the city.
The “Dubai, Transmutations” book, published by The Empty Quarter Dubai & Baudoin Lebon Paris is limited to a 1000 copies. The resulting printed book is widely recognised as being among the most beautiful prints in the history of the medium, with an introduction by Jean Pierre Quignaux and the sixth Century Poet Labid en Rabia.
The book was been printed by Calf & Meschke , Amsterdam, renowned for their impeccable printing precision. The images are printed in four tone composition with the negatives printed on tracing paper. The book is a hardcover which measures 23×33 cm and consists of 89 pages. This book will be available for purchase at The Empty Quarter for 135 Euros.
